The State of the Union threatens no one but can defend itself
GRODNO, July 1 (BelTA) – The Union State of Belarus and Russia does not threaten anyone but is able to defend itself, BelTA learned from State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich during of the 9th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia.
Aleksandr Volfovich said: “The current political situation is very complicated. The West collective led by the key curator – the United States of America – is trying to achieve its goals. In particular, he wants to suffocate all countries of the former Soviet Union and create tension around the borders of the Union state through various means.
According to him, the introduction of sanctions against Belarus and Russia is aimed at stifling the economies and reforming the political systems of the two countries. “It is only possible to oppose these sanctions together. Today, Russia and Belarus are two strategic partners who jointly manage emerging issues. I think we’re doing it pretty well. Today’s forum is a shining testimony to this. It takes place on the territory of Grodno – one of the most beautiful cities in Belarus,” the official noted.
Closer ties and the strengthening of the interaction of the two countries help to deal with issues relating to the prosperity and economic development of Belarus and Russia, Aleksandr Volfovich believes.
“If we talk about military cooperation, these issues have been dealt with at the highest level for a long time. The Belarusian-Russian regional group of military forces has been operating since 2000. We hold exercises every two years on a systemic basis. We are only making progress on this point. It is primarily designed to ensure the security of the Union State. We are not threatening anyone but we are able to protect our borders,” concluded Aleksandr Volfovich.
