CANFIELD – Ruth Anna Stevenson, 92, formerly of Boardman, passed away on Monday morning May 11, 2020 at Windsor House in Canfield.

Ruth was born December 28, 1927 in Lordstown, daughter of the late William and Anna Strudthoff Stevenson.

She graduated from Lordstown High School in 1945; and received a Bachelor of Music from Capital University in 1949; and his Masters of Education from Westminster College in 1957.

Ruth was a voice and music teacher and music specialist. In 1949, she began her teaching career in schools in northern Lima. In 1953, she began her tenure with the Youngstown Board of Education, as an elementary to secondary teacher, until her retirement in 1984, after 35 years of teaching. Ruth also gave private piano lessons and mentored a number of students who became close friends.

Ruth has traveled extensively, enjoyed many trips to Europe, and loved the lifelong learning atmosphere of the Chautauqua Institution’s Summer Institute on the shores of Lake Chautauqua in New York City.

She was a member of the Martin Lutheran Lutheran Church in Youngstown, where she served as the Bell Choir Director, Choir Choir Director and Church Board Member, as Cult, Stewardship President and finances. Ruth was the former president of the musical chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma; former member of the Youngstown Symphony Guild and the Women’s Committee for Children’s Concerts; and was a member of PEO, CE chapter.

Ruth is survived by four nieces, Pamela Dean, Cynthia Stevenson, Terri Stevenson and Lori Miller; and a host of good friends who were part of his extended family.

Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased by a brother, Harold Stevenson; and a sister, Mary Jane Stevenson.

Family and friends can call Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Martin Lutheran Lutheran Church, 420 Clearmount Drive in Youngstown, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Warren. Due to COVID-19, the 6-foot rule will be observed and all guests whose health permits and are not fully vaccinated are asked to wear a mask.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to the Martin Lutheran Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, 420 Clearmount Drive, Youngstown, OH 44511, in memory of Ruth.
