NBCI’s Reverend Evans sends letter to Russian Orthodox Church and Vatican to help free Brittney Griner

Rev. Anthony Evans, Chairman of NBCI

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, USA, May 14, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — Washington DC – The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI), a coalition of 150,000 African-American and Latino churches representing 27.7 million members is sending a letter to the Russian Orthodox Church and the Vatican to help release Brittney Griner. NBCI is determined to use the full strength of 150,000 black churches to bring her home.

An African-American woman, Ms. Brittney Griner, is being held in Russia. The Russian government claims to have found vaping cartridges containing cannabis oil in his luggage at an airport near Moscow. As of February 2022, Ms Griner remains in Russian custody with no release in sight. To that end, NBCI has contacted the head of the Russian Orthodox Church to offer its support for Ms Griner’s release. Ms Griner’s friends and family have contacted NBCI for help with her safe release.

Rev Evans, Chairman of NBCI said: “Ms. Griner is an innocent pawn in a complicated international chess game in the war between Russia and the West. Mrs. Griner is being used as a bargaining chip because of the sanctions imposed on Russia in light of the war in Ukraine. To that end, normal diplomacy will not work here due to the political and economic anger that exists between the West and Russia. I would argue that the only tool to be used on the international stage is the diplomacy of the church of Jesus Christ to intervene on behalf of this child of God who has become an innocent victim in the tangle of power and control. I hope Russia will graciously pursue the opportunity to support the release of Mrs. Brittney Griner who, in turn, can help end the war in accordance with the ethics of Jesus the Christ.
