DOE Joins Ukraine to Advance Energy Security, Clean Energy and Climate Solutions
WASHINGTON DC – Today, in a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm and Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko signed a joint declaration of intent to advance energy and climate cooperation within the framework of the US-Ukraine strategic dialogue on energy and climate. This dialogue launches a platform for cooperation focusing on accelerating Ukraine’s energy transition and integration into the EU while protecting Ukraine’s energy security.
“Today we mark an important step in the support of the US government and the Department of Energy for Ukraine’s energy needs,” saidEnergy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm. “With this joint declaration, we reinforce our mutual interest in tackling the climate crisis, creating new opportunities for rapid cooperation on decarbonization with a key European ally and helping Ukraine to strengthen its energy security and leadership in the region.
The signing of the joint statement was part of President Zelenskyy’s visit to Washington, DC for meetings with President Biden at the White House. It follows Secretary Granholm’s visit from August 21 to 23, 2021 to Ukraine to participate in the Crimean Multilateral Platform and to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence from the former Soviet Union.
