Azerbaijani religious leaders appeal on anniversary of start of second Karabakh war
BAKOU, Azerbaijan, September 29
Heads of religious denominations in Azerbaijan have issued an appeal relating to the anniversary of the start of the second Karabakh war (September 27), Trend reports citing the Caucasus Muslims Office.
“This date will be remembered forever as a starting point on the road to a great victory,” the message said. “The international community has seen the strength of the Azerbaijani political leader, the unwavering unity of government and people.
According to the message, the historic Azerbaijani city of Shusha has been freed from Armenian occupation and returned to its rightful owners.
The historic Shusha declaration, signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and fraternal Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, created a new geopolitical situation in the region, according to the message.
According to the message, the heads of religious denominations look to the future of Azerbaijan with great faith and great hope.
The main source of this inspiration is the principled and decisive position of President Aliyev, the large-scale restoration works underway in the country, the role of First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva in the implementation of socio-economic programs aimed at to the prosperity of the people, “the message reads.
According to the message, the respectful attitude of First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva towards the families of martyrs and combatants during the war, wounded soldiers, financial and moral support and management of social assistance programs are highly appreciated by citizens. .
The document notes that Armenia has held 20 percent of the territory of Azerbaijan (Karabakh, including 7 surrounding districts) under occupation for almost 30 years.
“The aggression was accompanied by war crimes and crimes against humanity. As a result of ethnic cleansing carried out by Armenia, more than one million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons. Armenia, which failed to abide by UN Security Council resolutions and took inspiration from its own impunity, continued the occupation and deliberately disrupted the negotiation process. In July 2020, Armenia committed a military provocation on the state border with Azerbaijan, ”the call said.
“As a result of the bombardment in the direction of Tovuz district in Azerbaijan, 13 soldiers and civilians were killed. And in August, an Armenian sabotage group crossed the old line of contact and attempted to carry out terrorist attacks against Azerbaijani military and civilians, which was prevented. Azerbaijan, in response to a large-scale attack by Armenia against military positions and civilians on September 27, 2020, exercised its right of self-defense and launched a counter-offensive operation against Armenia on its own territory ”, indicates the call.
The document points out that the war, which began on September 27 and lasted 44 days, made history with Azerbaijan’s brilliant victory over Armenia.
“Azerbaijan ensured the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, resolved the 30-year-old conflict through military-political means and restored its territorial integrity and historic justice. During the Second Karabakh War for the Liberation of Karabakh, all citizens rallied closely around President Ilham Aliyev, demonstrating their devotion to the homeland, ”the appeal read.
The authors of the document expressed their gratitude to the brotherly and friendly countries, religious organizations and international structures which have supported Azerbaijan at a difficult and crucial historical moment.
In the appeal, religious denominations note with regret that there are forces that try to cover up the crimes of Armenia against the Azerbaijani people, the acts of vandalism against the cultural and spiritual heritage of Azerbaijan.
These forces are trying to justify Armenian terrorism and the policy of ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis by applying double standards, the call says.
The authors of the document once again called on Armenia to abandon its aggressive, revengeful, nationalist and separatist policies.
“We call on the Armenian Church to end calls for provocative and revengeful war and to fight for peace. Azerbaijan Remembrance Day – September 27, which is inscribed in our calendar as the beginning of the path to a great victory, we wish peace to the souls of the hero-martyrs. May God save the Azerbaijani state and the Azerbaijani people, ”says the appeal.
The document was signed by the chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, Sheikh-ul Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, the chairman of the religious community of mountain Jews Milikh Yevdayev, the chairman of the religious community of European Jews Alexander Sharovsky, the secretary of the Diocese of Baku and Azerbaijan of the Russian Federation.
