Alexander Novopashin Calls Ukrainians Nazis and Satanists
Archpriest Alexander Novopashin is vice-president of Russia’s largest anti-cult organization and still presents himself as a “corresponding member” of FECRIS.

A journalist friend of Bitter Winter received from the Novosibirsk Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church the text of an interview with Archpriest Alexander Novopashin published by Komsomolskaya Pravda on June 24, and a CV explaining why Novopashin is important and the interview was important. He sent it to us, knowing that we follow Novopashin with interest.
He is, as the CV (also published on his diocese’s missionary service website) explains, a “corresponding member” of FECRIS, the European Federation of Centers for Research and Information on Cults and Sects. The same website emphasizes Novopashin’s role as vice president of the Center for Religious Studies, the Russian anti-cult umbrella organization whose president is FECRIS board member Alexander Dvorkin.
As reported by Bitter Winter, after the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the Center for Religious Studies disappeared from the list of FECRIS member organizations on the FECRIS website, although no official statement or press release explains why. To our knowledge, Dvorkin is still a member of the board of directors of FECRIS. And if FECRIS no longer considers Novopashin to be a “corresponding member”, it should say so clearly and take action against its website.
All of this is of some interest given the “important” interview with Novopashin that his diocese is publicizing and reposting. We are used to Russian propaganda and the fact that Russian anti-cultists linked to FECRIS like Alexander Dvorkin accuse “the cults” of having worked with American intelligence services to create the democratic movement in Ukraine.
However, the FECRIS “corresponding member” interview is extreme, even by Russian standards. The interviewer begins by telling Novopashin, “There is a Z sign on your service church car. Your position regarding the special military operation in Ukraine immediately becomes clear. The anti-cult leader replies that he “expressed [his] position from the first day of the special operation, calling it anti-terrorist, by the way. Because the political regime of Ukraine is undeniably terrorist, extremist, misanthropic, Nazi. The Z sign signifies a world in which there is no place for Nazism and Satanism. For me Nazism and Satanism are synonymous words.
Novopashin recalls that in the good old Soviet days, Ukrainians didn’t really feel separated from Russia. But then Ukraine quickly “deteriorated, according to plans prepared by Western and American experts who are quite familiar with destructive activities. The work of dividing our people has been carried out tirelessly, particularly intensively for thirty years, and, unfortunately, not without success. It took a lot of money to do that. But the work on the separation of Ukrainians and Russians reached its peak after Euromaidan. Ukrainians seem to have been completely changed. They have become different. And this is understandable, because the pressure on their conscience was unprecedented. And it continues for that purpose. The West, explains Novopashin as an expert on “cults”, used the same “psychotechniques” used by “cults”. In fact, he used them in Ukraine by infiltrating or sponsoring “cults” there.
The objective of the double conspiracy of the West and the “sects” in Ukraine, explains Novopashin, was to promote “Nazism”. “A significant part of the Ukrainian population is imbued with this ideology… but Ukrainian youth have particularly suffered from it. In fact, the West was counting on it, the youth, initially.
In fact, Novopashin explains, Ukrainians are so Nazi that even school children cook food for the holidays and give them names “like ‘Blood of Russian Babies’ and so on. Although, of course, Ukrainian teachers helped them find the names. Children are turned into cannibals.
They don’t actually eat Russian human flesh or drink Russian blood in schools, but they become psychological cannibals, Novopashin believes. When they grow up, they take “action”. For example, says Novopashin, “a seemingly prosperous Ukrainian girl writes on social media that prisoners of war should be sold for organs. And she gets likes. What’s worse is that it’s not just statements, it’s a call to action. Because of Western and sectarian “brainwashing”, in Ukraine now “all the air is poisoned by Nazi ideology, Ukrainians are forced to breathe it. Of course, even in this case, not all of them become ukronazists or radical nationalists, but the rest are content to close their eyes to what is happening… However, when they are given a machine gun in their hands and are told to go and kill the Russians, they will kill. Including civilians, children, pregnant women, the elderly. Maybe they’re not neo-Nazis in spirit, but they kill… You understand?
An objection from the interviewer is that there are Russian-speaking Ukrainians fighting for Ukraine against Russia. Novopashin replies that they have been brainwashed and become “Russian bastards”. “That’s pretty much what can be done to a person, daily, hour by hour, affecting their consciousness. Deprive them of critical thinking, remove the protective barrier, and then you can download anything into the head of a person. And therefore, depending on the information fed to him, a person can degrade mentally. Russians, who have degraded mentally, cease to be Russians, they become “Russian bastards”. Russian bastards hate everything Russian: faith, culture, history, literature. The Azov regiment is made up of Russian bastards. Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Yurievich Glazyev says that Russian bastards are worse than fascists and declares that we Russians cannot have any dialogue with the Russian bastards.
How did the West work? He understood, Novopashin explains, that he had to destroy the Russian Orthodox Church, and he did it through the “cults”. “Cultural, mainly neo-Pentecostal and neo-pagan organizations began to emerge in Ukraine from the early 1990s, in which tens of thousands of Ukrainians were fraudulently implicated. The neo-pagans were the most aggressive. They sawed off Calvaries, burned Orthodox churches and chapels. But the New Pentecostals weren’t much better than them. They did not burn the churches, but… It is well known that neo-Pentecostal missionaries were sent from Ukraine to Russia, whose aim was to “reform the consciousness of Russians on the basis of the values of Euromaidan spread the ‘theology of Maidan’, create worship communities in the form of dormant cells on ‘enemy territory’, that is to say on our territory, which could be quickly awakened in the event of disturbances. Let me remind you that this was the case on the Maidan, when thousands of cult members came to the square in the center of kyiv.
With the war, Novopashin insists, the cat is out of the bag and the Ukrainian “cultists” are showing their true Satanist identity. Many “members of the Ukrainian national security forces,” the anti-cultists explain, “practice satanic rituals, paint their bodies not only with swastikas, but also with satanic and occult symbols. In fact, they are sects… The Nazis declare themselves servants of Satan and defy God.
Novopashin admits he has no evidence that the Ukrainian military performs human sacrifices to Satan or cannibalism. “But if the Nazi Satanists, he asks, painted with occult and pagan signs, slaughter the prisoners, do not spare the elderly, rape, then brutally kill women and children by engraving swastikas on the corpses, n is not the same act of sacrifice to their pagan gods?
But why should the West promote such horrors in Ukraine? The “corresponding member of FECRIS” has the answer: “Destroy everything that connects Ukraine to Great Russia, Russian civilization, to Russia, to the Russian world. Such an ideology is always destructive… The denazification special operation is carried out not only to destroy the hydra in its lair, but to protect the whole Russian world. However, Novopashin believes that destroying the Hydra in Ukraine would not be enough. The West, he says, is already at work in other countries. “After the end of Ukrainian Nazism, another aggressor country will appear, through which the United States will begin to threaten Russia. A war of civilization cannot be avoided.
These theories seem to suggest that the Archpriest isn’t operating with a full deck, but it’s important to note that Novopashin isn’t a lone lunatic. His interviews are reprinted nationwide and advertised by his diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Possibly, but we are not sure, his organization’s membership in FECRIS was recently suspended, but he claims to still be in FECRIS as an individual. And Novopashin and Dvorkin didn’t develop these ideas overnight when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. Russian anti-cultists began making nonsensical claims about “cultists” being used by the CIA to create a democratic anti-Russian movement in Ukraine at the time of the Orange attack. Revolution in 2004, and continues in 2014 and beyond. During all these periods, they were part of FECRIS and hailed by FECRIS as particularly effective members. It would be difficult now for FECRIS to claim that it does not know the positions of its Russian affiliates on Ukraine.
